[PC] How to resolve data corruption errors

Potential Cause: Missing Game Files

We recommend ‘Verifying the Integrity of Game Files’ via Steam before attempting any other solutions:

1. Right-click Vermintide 2 in your Steam library sidebar
2. Select 'Properties'
3. Select the 'Local Files' tab
4. Select the 'Verify the Integrity of Game Files' button
5. When complete, close and reopen Steam

Potential Cause: Faulty Drive

Please scan your drives for errors using the instructions below. A bad drive may be resulting in your data becoming corrupted.

1. Navigate to 'This PC' (or 'My Computer')
2. Right-click your drive
3. Select the 'Tools' tab
4. Under 'Error checking', select 'Check'
5. A "You don't need to scan this drive" notification may pop up if on Windows 8/10. Proceed with the scan anyway by selecting 'Scan Drive'

If errors are produced, we recommend that you seek advice from a hardware specialist.

Potential Cause: Faulty RAM

Faulty RAM can also result in your data becoming corrupted, similarly to the above. You can check your RAM for errors using the Windows Memory Diagnostic by:

1. Press the Windows key + R
2. Enter mdsched.exe and select 'OK'
3. When ready, select the 'Restart now and check for problems' option
4. Allow the scan to complete

If errors are produced, we recommend that you seek advice from a hardware specialist.

Potential Cause: Mismatched RAM

Mismatched RAM modules have been known to produce these errors for some players. Please ensure your all of your RAM modules are operating at the same speeds by:

1. Open the Command Prompt
2. Enter the command:
wmic memorychip get speed

The speeds listed should all be the same, e.g:

If the speeds are not matching, we recommend that you seek advice from a hardware specialist.

Potential Cause: Viruses or Malware

Viruses and malware can corrupt your data, so we recommend that you scan your PC for malicious software using a reputable anti-virus and/or anti-malware program of your choosing.

Potential Cause: Conflicting Background Applications

It's possible that a background application is conflicting and consequently resulting in the data corruption errors. Please disable all non-essential background applications and services (including any Firewall and Anti-Virus software, but proceed with caution and be sure to re-enable it afterwards) and see if the issues persist.
